City of Angels

My mom and I had a blast exploring L.A. this past week, as we really wanted to embrace a change of pace and scenery. We covered a lot of ground: the Google office in Venice Beach, Beverly Hills, Beverly Center, West Hollywood, Westwood/UCLA, and of course Downtown LA. No celebrity sightings (much to my mom's disappointment), but a few highlights from the trip include (but aren't limited to):

  • Staying at a really old, grand hotel built in 1910 that I'm still convinced is haunted. It has tons of hidden passageways and is pretty much the real-life version of the Hollywood Tower of Terror. Our best moment was when we decided to swim "laps" in their "pool" one morning. When we got there, the pool was really small and the water was really oddly warm, but for some reason we still decided to put on our swim caps and goggles to get our "laps" in. Mom ended up doing 82. LOL.
  • Eating at SUR, which certainly was the Sexy, Unique Restaurant that they were going for. We almost spit out our drinks though when we saw the portion sizes (e.g., 4 brussels sprouts in 1 order). But the ambience was SO cool, PLUS my mom was my romantic date, so it was worth it :)
  • Eating the most delicious vegan food at Native Food Cafe in Westwood! They had Lavender Lemonade that was like crack. We shared a delicious healthy tofu wrap and tofu-bean-quinoa dish that we're still dreaming about.
  • Spontaneously getting an ombre! The hair dresser, Pat, was quite the character and had my mom and I cracking up with his general views on life. Afterwards, we got huge soy hot chocolates and escaped a $50 parking fine!

Lastly, I'd like to share my 2015 New Year Resolutions to hold myself accountable and declare to the world (AKA my ~4 devoted readers) what I am consciously trying to do this year. They are:

1. Be More Relaxed. Generally chill out more and refuse to sweat the small stuff.

2. Be More Spontaneous. Try new things without thinking (e.g., tattoos, piercings......JK mother). But I really do want to embrace the moment more and stop over-thinking things (hence, my new ombre) :)
