Salt Air
“Be humble, you are made of earth. Be noble, you are made of stars.”
I saw this quote on a huge brick wall in downtown San Diego recently and for some reason it really stuck with me. As I thought about what it means to be humble and noble, I started thinking about what things I want to continue trying to “be” especially as a new year approaches.
The 3 things I want to continue trying to “be” in 2021:
self-compassionate
patient
present
If there’s anything this year has taught me, it’s that having compassion for myself — how I talk to myself, treat myself, carry myself, listen to myself — is foundational to my health and well-being. Being patient — not rushing things, trusting that the process will unfold as it should — is perhaps the most challenging yet crucial way to eliminate unnecessary stress in my life. Being present — not worrying about future problems, focusing on the current moment — is the only thing we really have control over. I’ve been working on applying these in my daily life. One of my favorite memories this year that really exemplified being present was taking Mercy for a random, unplanned, spontaneous stop at the beach one beautiful Saturday afternoon. I’ll never forget how excited we both were to just be together in that moment. I can still smell the crisp salt air and feel the sand in our toes - it was such a simple activity, but sometimes the simplest, smallest moments are the ones that stick with us the most.
Here are some other beautiful moments from the past few months, my favorites being when I’m breathing in that fresh salt air :) Xoxo
