Life Pre-Quarantine

I’ve procrastinated on updating my blog for awhile now because I didn’t quite know what to say or how to say everything I’m feeling right now during this crazy time in our lives. It feels like I woke up one day and not just MY world, but THE world, had stopped turning. But I decided to push past my mental block by recognizing that I don’t have to have the words to explain the pit in my stomach or the overwhelming feelings of sadness that come over me sometimes. Instead I’ll focus on the fun times I had before this happened and what life has been like lately.

We’ve been quarantining and working from home for 36 days now, and it feels like the time has gone by in both the blink of an eye and at the pace of a tortoise. At a time when everything feels uncertain, I’ve learned to take each day as it comes, celebrate the small stuff, and try to embrace the good things that can come out of this rare opportunity we have to press “pause” on our normal daily life (which in its own way, can be monotonous too). Here are some random oxymoron-like observations of what life has been like: Time goes by very slow yet very fast. The weather has been both bright/sunny and dark/rainy. The world outside is strangely both deserted (on streets) yet crowded (in stores). It feels like everyone is alone together.

I will say that this has given me a very different perspective on life - how interconnected people are, how reliant we are on social interactions, how much we need human touch. I can confidently say that the first thing I’m going to do at the soonest chance I have, is go and give the biggest hugs to everyone I love. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that the health and happiness of the people we love is directly correlated to our own health and happiness.

I’m going to stop here, and perhaps save some of my learnings and reflections for a later post. But in the meantime, here are some photos from pre-quarantine life that I never got around to posting. Seeing them now, I am again reminded of how I miss everyone so much! But all I know is that together, we’ll get through this. Xoxo.
