London, Stonehenge and Bath

I decided to venture to the UK last week, where I spent five days soaking it all in. The first two days were over the weekend. On Saturday after I landed at 8am, I went to the Churchill War Rooms - easily one of the coolest history experiences I’ve ever had. It was fascinating to learn even more about WWII, and eerie to stand in the actual underground rooms left exactly as they were when the war ended in 1945. Afterward, I ventured over to Notting Hill, which is my favorite part of London. The shops are so charming that I was overwhelmed in the best way. I treated myself to a massage and then trekked back by foot to my hotel in Central London.

On Sunday, it was a crack-of-dawn start for a tour out to Stonehenge! This has been on my bucket list for a long time, and I’m so glad I finally went. It sits right in the middle of nowhere (lol), and I was fascinated to learn that it was likely an ancient burial ground - and that we still don't fully know how those massive stones were transported there! They date back to around 2000 BC, which is mind-blowing. It was another one of those moments that brought tears to my eyes: realizing I was standing there in real life, taking in something built thousands of years ago. Mind blowing!

After Stonehenge, we headed to Bath, which completely exceeded my expectations. Talk about the ultimate adorable English town! I loved grabbing a delicious pumpkin soup at a spot called Oak (right next to the famous Sally Lunn’s bakery) and learning about the city's Georgian history and architecture. I also loved touring the ancient Roman bathhouse and seeing where they went to do their sauna and steam! From there, I decided to take the 1.5-hour train back into Paddington instead of the tour bus so I could have more time on my feet. I loved walking through Soho all the way back to my hotel. It was a whirlwind weekend, but so worth it.

I spent the next three days working out of the London office, connecting in person with my coworkers and spending quality time with the team. I absolutely loved it. My flight back to Dublin on Thursday morning was delayed, so I had to pivot and rebook onto a different flight - but I made it home safely and didn't miss a beat with work. I left feeling so inspired to explore even more of the UK, and I can’t wait to head back!
