Museum of Natural History
We went on a little day date to the Natural History Museum and it was iconic. We walked the few miles to the museum and it was the perfect way to start the day. The dinosaurs were my favorite part, thinking about how terrifying it would be to see one of those in real life! The monkeys were also a fav for us. We also watched their IMAX solar system show and it was actually a lot cooler than I thought it was going to be. When you zoom out on everything, it is pretty miraculous that we are all here floating in space together!
Governor’s Island
I took myself on the cutest solo date to Gov Island a few weekend ago. The sun was shining, the air was very crisp, and it was so nice to spend time alone. I walked a few miles down to the ferry building and hopped on the short ride over to the island. It was so fast, easy, and afforded great views of Brooklyn and the southern skyline of Manhattan.
Once on the island, I walked around and eventually found my way to Outlook Hill where I got to see the best view. I loved wandering around, and even stumbled upon Pumpkin Point, the cutest pumpkin patch. It was so festive and charming. The best part was all of the beautiful nature and scenery. Once back on the main land, I treated myself to delicious dark chocolate vegan gelato while wandering around the Village. It was truly once of my favorite days in so long!
pottery class with sis
Sam and I decided to explore a new activity together: pottery! I found a cute pottery studio in the Bowery where we got to sit at the wheel, mold our pieces from clay, and then paint it. It was really relaxing and much harder than I expected. I was on the pursuit of crafting the most perfect caveman mug while Sam’s goal was to create a bowl of Rocket. If this doesn’t match our personalities to a T, I don’t know what does! I made a few mistakes (accidentally pierced a hole through my mug at one point) but appreciated how malleable the clay was and the ability to smooth over any flaws or imperfections so easily. I’m sure there is some sort of metaphor for life from this! As a neutral gal, I decided not to paint it any color so that it dries white, much to the astonishment of the pottery instructors (lol). I truly treasured spending time doing this random and fun activtiy with my sis!
statue of liberty crown & Ellis island
Since moving here, we’ve been wanting to go inside the Statue of Liberty and check out Ellis Island - and we finally did it! It’s been decades since I’ve been to these monuments, so I was really looking forward to going again - plus we are suckers for hard stair climbs the lead to beautiful views! It was very narrow and steep getting to the top of the crown but it was such a neat vantage point at the top. We were the first ones at the top of her crown, so it was nice to not have any tourists in the tiny room. We then took the ferry over to Ellis Island, where we got to visit the Registry Room, which ended up being our favorite part of the morning. Being in the same room that millions of immigrants (including my own) funneled through a century ago is pretty mind blowing. It was the perfect way to spend a Sunday morning together!
