São Miguel Island (The Azores Part 2)
We spontaneously booked a last minute trip to the Azores for Labor Day weekend in the spirit of living in the moment and simply because… why not? We wanted to take advantage of the 3 day weekend and do something adventurous and memorable. We took a red eye to beautiful Sao Miguel Island in the Azores on Friday night, and hit the ground running when we got there on Saturday morning. We rented our little car and drove to Vista do Rei Miradouro, which was our #1 spot we wanted to see. It did not disappoint. The blue and green lakes were picture perfect. I could have stared at it for hours! We hiked around the area, visited a beautiful lake, took in the perfect green scenery, and then drove down to Sete to check out the cute little village. Throughout that day and the day after, we went running/walking along the beach by our hotel, explored Ponta Delgada, Furnas (our favorite), and Ribeira Grande. We blasted music and belted out songs at the top of our lungs with the windows rolled down. We visited random churches, upside down houses, volcanic sites, natural pools, went swimming in hot springs at Terra Nostra, drove to several miraduoros, got lost trying to find hiking trails, and ate some of the most delicious homemade gelato I’ve ever had. We slept 10 hours each night. My soul felt replenished after just 48 hours on that beautiful island. What a special trip and perfect way to cap off an incredible summer. Xoxo
