Sister Time in NYC

Last weekend I packed my backpack and took a cross-country flight to visit my sister in the big apple. She moved there in January and I have been itching for 3 months to go out there to see her. I was so excited when I saw her walking down the busy NY street, in her adorable outfit and glasses. My 9 year old self still can’t believe that my little baby sister has grown into such a beautiful 24 year old adult.

We caught up over some delicious smoothies that first evening (Rocket loved his acai bowl toy), and the next morning I walked to her apartment. It was the perfect spring day in NYC - 70 degrees and sunny. She gave me the grand tour of her beautiful, bohemian inspired apartment with an iconic view, and then we headed out to Central Rock for a rock climbing workout (her new hobby). I was in shock at her incredible strength and ability to do really difficult bouldering routes. It was SO much fun and the perfect way to get some cardio, strength training, and all over body conditioning in the morning. I may or may not still be sore (lol). My muscles were DEAD the next day but it felt so good. From there, we went for a long walk together down the Hudson river to visit The Little Island. It was so beautiful and teeming with people. I loved seeing the Jersey skyline and all the greenery. Then we walked to Soho where we grabbed juices and salads, followed by an afternoon shopping spree at Aritzia (the ultimate Gen Z store). It was the PERFECT sister day!

On my final day in NYC, I started the morning with a long walk through Central Park and then back down Madison Ave through the Upper East Side. I also treated myself to a fabulous facial before grabbing lunch with Sam (more salads!) and then watching MJ The Musical on Broadway together. We had great orchestra seats and the music and dancing was impeccable! I loved learning about MJ’s life and his music is truly timeless. I haven’t been to a Broadway show in years, so it felt refreshing to do something different and be entertained by live talent.

I wouldn’t change a single thing about the trip. I now have peace of mind knowing that my sister is settled and happy in NYC. I am really proud of her for moving there and challenging herself to explore new hobbies, meet new people, and create the life she wants for herself. Not many people have the courage to do that. I adore her and was reminded of just how lucky I am to be her sister! Xoxo
